Current Title: "Resolved: Universities should embrace DE"

(there is also an short view without explanations of this document)

The Title (required)

The title is shown in the conference listing; users click on the title to get into the conference, so it should be descriptive enough that they can find it.

The Text Description (optional)

Note that the text description for the header this is indented under (see it now) will automatically show up before (above) whatever you insert here.

Choose Outline or Linear Style

Choose whether this conferences will be presented in an outline (hierarchical, ordered by topic) style, or a linear (ordered by date of post) style.

Note that labels are required for every post in an outline-style conference; they are optional in a linear-style conference.

Style of this conference (required)

Associate A Group with this conference (optional)

The group associated with the conference has its permissions augmented by the magical group Primary Group in the permissions section, below. Any permissions granted to Primary Group, here or in any header this is indented under, will be added to the permissions for whatever group is listed here.

If you don't associated a specific group with this conference, this just means that any permissions granted to the group "Primary Group" in the the permissions section below are ignored.

Permissions

Permissions set in a header "carry over" to any conferences (or sub-headers) which are indented underneath it. Permissions are always "added" together -- a group given Read/Write/EditOwn permissions in the header cannot only have Read permission in this conference, since there's no way to "take away" the Write/EditOwn permissions.

The special group EVERYONE contains everyone who is a part of the class. This group is automatically created and maintained by the system.

The "imaginary" group PRIMARY GROUP grants permissions to whichever group is listed as the "primary group" of an individual conference. If you had the system create a set of conferences for you, one for each selected group, it automatically set the primary group of each of those conferences to the group the conference is named after.

A NOTE ABOUT "Postfirst": Generall, when using the "postfirst" option, instructors like to set only the permissions "Read", "Write", and "Postfirst". If you allow your users to edit, it's possible for them to submit a "dummy" message, read everyone else's messages, and then immediately edit their first message. This gets around the whole point of using "postfirst".
