The following guide for distance learning classroom operations focuses on your local room and
the equipment in your room. The remote site is the distant site(s) with which you are communicating.

1. Five Easy Steps

TO A SUCCESSFUL DISTANCE LEARNING EVENT, HAVE YOU:
- _____ Scheduled your event through the W.G.T.D. office?
- _____ Turned on the system with remote touch pad? If the display on the
touch pad is not visible, select, "Menu". This equipment should have been
turned on with the touch pad:

2. AMX Remote Soft Key Pad

The entire system is operated by one soft key remote control.
There are nine "pages" or screens that allow you control all
equipment.
- Main Page - To turn on/off system; select the source for big screen,
small monitor; control volume; mute the remote site. Sources include
instructor camera, student camera, doc cam (document camera),VCR,
auxiliary and "other controls".
- Instructor Camera Presets - To select and/or save presets for inst. camera.
- Instructor Camera Controls - To adjust inst. camera, auto tracking, and move to preset page.
- Student Camera Presets - To select and/or save presets for stud. camera.
- Student Camera Controls - To adjust stud. camera, auto tracking and move to preset page.
- VCR Control - To control VCR, record local or remote site, control volume.
- Other Controls - To select large monitor or small preview monitor; mute local site (audio - privacy) or remote site or
both simultaneously; control volume; turn on/off stereo capability.
- Large Monitor Control - To select channel input and control PIP ("picture in picture").
- Preview Monitor Control - To select sources (instructor camera, student camera, document camera,VCR, auxillary or remote)
to preview on the small preview monitor.

3. Large Front Monitor (53")

Setting the 53" Monitor
The 53" monitor allows you to view the remote site on Video 1 full screen (only during a two-site configuration),
or your local site on Video 2(3) full screen, and supports a Picture In Picture (PIP) combination.
To put the 53" monitor on Video 1, press the TV/VIDEO button on the monitor (or press other controls
on the main page of the touch pad, then large monitor, then TV/Video and channel up or down) until you see the words
VIDEO 1 on the upper right hand corner of the monitor screen.
The following items detail the process for using the PIP functions of the 53" monitor.
PIP Controls on Remote - press other controls on main page, press large monitor, then find PIP controls:
- PIP - Press on/off once and an inset picture within the primary picture can be viewed. Press it again and the inset
gets smaller. Press again and the PIP will disappear. Press again to restart the cycle.
- SWAP - Press SWAP and the local site (send) inset will swap with the remote site (receive) primary picture.
SWAP also returns the local site to the inset (PIP). Use TV/VIDEO button on monitor to get remote site on
Video 1 and local on Video 2/3.
- POSITION - By pressing the position button, the PIP inset will change location within the primary picture to other quadrants.
It cycles counterclockwise.
- When system is turned on, Video 1 should be full screen showing remote site. To get local site shown on Video 2/3, bring up PIP,
then Swap, Press TV/VIDEO button on monitor to get Video 2/3 shown on monitor, then press Inst. camera, Stud., doc, or VCR on touch
remote (whatever you want to send).
You may also select other sources, then large monitor, then TV/Video, then channel up or down on
remote touch pad to get to the channel you desire on the large screen.

4. Instructor & Student Cameras

2 Sony Cameras
The Sony cameras are located on top of the big screen in the front of the room (student camera) and on a wall in the back
of the room (instructor camera). They enable you to pan, tilt, zoom, pre-set, and track (on the instructor camera only).
Camera Selection
Press either instructr camera (instructor camera) or student camera from main menu. Adjust using pan,
tilt, zoom. Press main menu.
Previewing Camera Shot
To preview cam shot before actually switching to it, press other controls from main menu, select preview monitor.
If you like the way it looks, press main menu, then select camera to put up on big screen.
To Set a Preset
After adjusting camera from either instructor or student camera control page, press presets. Press preset save.
Press a preset button (P1, P2, P3, etc.). Press main menu.
You can preset up to 6 views ahead of time. When you select a camera from the main menu, you can then pick which preset
you want to appear on the big screen. It's a good idea to make a written preset list, showing what views you have preset for each number.
Autotrack
Select auto trk on/off. Adjust cam shot to put the square over the face or chest area of the subject to be tracked.
As you move the square, numbers appear on the screen. Choose the area displaying the higher number to rest the square on, and select
autotrk start/stop to "set" the tracking function of the camera. When the subject attempts to move out of the framed area,
the camera will follow him/her, keeping the subject in the framed range at all times.

5. Document Camera

- The document camera is used mostly to display pictures, photos, slides, negatives, transparencies and three-dimensional objects
on the 53" monitor.
- To display a solid item:
- Push VID button located under Video Out on document camera.
- Place item on screen area.
- Item can be focused by using ZOOM - the black button on the right: W & T (W=Wide View / T=Telephoto
View)
- More or less light can be had by engaging the IRIS button: close open Close gives less light.
Open gives more light.
- Push doc cam on main menu of remote.
- To display a slide or a transparency:
- Follow steps i-iii above, then:
- Push (blue) LIGHTING button once. This eliminates side lights and turns on the bottom light for better viewing.
- More or less light can be had by engaging the IRIS button: close & open (Close gives less light. Open gives more light).
- Push doc cam on main menu of remote.
- To display a negative:
- Turn on the document camera.
- Push VID button located under VIDEO OUT.
- Place negative on screen area.
- Press NEGA button (front, on left side).
- Item can be focused by using ZOOM (see #1 c. above)
- More or less light can be had by engaging the IRIS button (see #1 d. above)
- Push doc cam on main menu of the remote.
- Push NEGA button again to disengage.
- Push (blue) LIGHTING button two times to re-engage side lights.
- The top part of the document camera is also a camcorder, which can be used to focus on people in the room, a table display, etc.
To use the camcorder:
- Slide the lens cap off. It does not completely remove - it just slides out of the way.
- Twist and turn the camera to focus on the desired subject(s).
- Use ZOOM (black button on right) W T to focus on subject.
- Push doc cam on main menu of the remote.
BE SURE TO REPLACE POSITION OF CAMERA AND LENS CAP WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED!
- To preview doc cam before putting it on large screen, press main menu, press other controls, press preview
monitor, press doc cam. Make sure VID is pressed on doc cam.
DO NOT WRITE ON THE DOCUMENT CAMERA SCREEN!!-- or on a paper that is on the document camera screen
unless the screen is covered with a piece of transparency or laminated material.

6. VCR

- TO PLAY A TAPE
- To play a video tape over the network.
- Load tape into VCR. (Make sure the VCR is in "L" (line) mode. Press channel -/+ button on VCR front
panel to get it to "L".) Press VCR from the main menu on the remote. Press play.
- On the big monitor press TV/VIDEO until VIDEO 2/3 appears on the right-hand corner of the screen.
You may also press other controls from the main menu, then large monitor, then TV/Video
and channel up or down unto Video 2 or 3 appears on 53" screen.* At the distant site, the
53" monitor should already be showing the video tape, full screen. This is not the case if the network
is configured in a quad split. During a quad split network configuration, only the local site can view the video
full screen. The remote sites will view the video within one quadrant of the screen.
- To play a video tape without engaging the network (in-room use only)
- Load tape into VCR. Get VCR to "L" by pressing channel -/+ button on VCR. Press VCR from main menu on
remote. Press play.
- On either the large monitor or the large monitor page of the remote, press TV/VIDEO button on either the screen or the
remote large monitor page until VIDEO 2/3 appears on the right-hand corner of the screen.
This will allow students in the local room to view the video on the entire screen.
- TO PREVIEW A VIDEO TAPE
Be sure the 13" monitor is set on VIDEO 1 by pressing the TV/VIDEO button on the front panel. Load tape into VCR.
Press channel -/+ button on VCR to get to "L".
Press other controls from main page of remote. Press preview monitor. Press VCR. Press play.
This will allow you to preview your tape and cue it up. Press pause when it gets to where you want it to start.
Press menu. Press VCR. Press play. - TO RECORD A SESSION
- Place a blank video tape in the VCR.
- Push Channel + or - until you get to "L". ("L" is located just below the #2 or just above #69 on VCR front panel.)
- Press other controls from main menu on remote. Press preview monitor. Press VCR. Press local or remote,
depending on which site you want to record. Both audios will automatically be recorded. If you do not want audio from your site
recorded when recording the remote site, press privacy from other controls menu.

7. Auxiliary

The Auxiliary source selection under the VCR selection on the remote main menu page and on the preview monitor
control page allows you to select a source you have plugged into the outlets marked audio or video on the back of the large
gray console. The sources you elect to plug in could be another VCR, a scan converter, CD player, audio cassette tape recorder, etc.

8. Preview Monitor

13" Monitor
The Preview Monitor lets you view whatever source you will project to the big screen.
On remote, select other controls from main menu. Select preview monitor. Select preview source you
wish to view. Make sure small monitor is set on Video 1.
When selecting the doc cam as the preview source, make sure VID has been selected on doc cam.

9. Audio Functions

Volume
The volume coming in to the local site can be controlled from the following screens on the remote touch pad:
the main menu, the VCR control screen, and the other control screen. Select volume: up or volume: down
to increase or decrease the sound coming in.
Muting
To mute the remote site and eliminate any audio coming in from them, from the
main menu select mute: far site or select other control then audio: mute: far site.
To mute all sounds coming in to or going out from your site, from the main menu select other control
then audio: mute: all.
For local privacy, that is to eliminate sound going out from your site only, from the main menu select
other control then audio: privacy.
Stereo
Stereo can only be enjoyed if the audio coming in to the local room is in stereo. To enhance the audio during a
stereo session, from the main menu select other control then stereo: on/off.

10. Microphones

Ceiling Microphones
These mics are mounted in the ceiling. They are automatically engaged and adjusted by the system.
Lavaliere Microphones
These mics are usually located in a small pouch. The mike clips to clothing and should be about six inches
from the mouth. Each mic has a battery pack which can be clipped onto a belt or waistband. The battery pack has two buttons:
on/mute which should be on to speak; off/power which should be in the power position to speak.
These mics take a 9 volt battery located in the battery pack. To check battery quality, look at the display
on the battery pack or push the battery check button.
To adjust mic output, move the volume control on the front portion of the Shure panel on the gray teaching
stand or move the volume control behind the panel marked "Shure" on the gray teaching stand. Pull down the panel
to reveal the volume control knob.
Hand Held Microphones
These mics have a long cord. One end is for the microphone itself and the other plugs into the outlet on the upper
left hand corner of the back of the gray teacher stand. Be sure the on/off button on the handle of the mike is in the on
position to speak.
Table Microphones
These mics also have a long cord. One end is for the microphone itself and the other plugs into the outlet on the
upper left hand corner of the back of the gray teacher stand. These mics are designed to sit on a flat surface. They are automatically
engaged and adjusted by the system.
