Trouble Shooting Guide for AAVS Equipment

This is a job aid to systematically diagnose and attempt to solve technical problems. This is intended to use before having to call other support from VIC or Video Images (1-800-488-4336). Please report and document where possible. Actions to be taken are in bold type.

Audio

  1. Can hear remote site, but can't be heard.
    1. Privacy is on at local site (Main Menu- Other Controls - Audio Privacy)
    2. Volume is too low volume at remote site have them turn up their volume (Main Menu - Volume Up)
    3. They have muted the far site. (Main Menu - Mute Far Site at bottom)
    4. Reboot System turn equipment off at local site for thirty seconds then turn back on (Main Menu - Power On/Off)
    5. Call Video Images with this information.
  2. Cannot hear remote site, but they can hear you.
    1. They have privacy on. Tell them the path. (Main Menu- Other Controls - Audio Privacy)
    2. Tell them to turn their volume up. (Main Menu - volume up)
    3. You have mute far site on (Main Menu - Mute Far Site )
  3. Poor volume to or from.
    1. Use lavaliere or table microphone.
    2. Have remote site turn up the volume.
  4. I hear myself echoing back.
    1. Have far site turn down volume.
    2. Have far site go on privacy until they need to talk.
    3. If old equipment retrain sound.

Types of Sounds

  • Steady tone - test sound coming in from a network source - call Video Images.
  • Hum - local follow reboot procedure. Video bleed too hot. -Try eliminating some light sources like from a window or bright background.
  • Crackle - Bad microphone connection. Use lavaliere (check battery power) or other microphones and check connections at microphones.
  • Ring - local volume too high at one site - have sites adjust volume down.

Video

    Can't see remote site but can hear them.

  1. Make sure that your monitor and the remote site monitor is turned on (there should be a red light on the front panel by on/off switch.
  2. Check video settings - Main Menu -Other Controls Large Monitor - TV Video press until set to video 1 or have remote site turn on student camera or other source from Main Menu.
  3. Black screen no sound -Call Video Images to check if conference is scheduled properly or call other site to see if anyone is there to turn on equipment.

Quad VRU Problems

Loss of control of quad press 0,0 for default first then new setting if this does not work hang up and redial VRU numbers

Video flashing- press 0,0 for default first, then new setting if this does not work hang up and redial VRU numbers

Blank quad one site is blank or equipment is not turned on -call site and make sure someone is there to turn on equipment
