Center for Applied Semiotics

The Center For Applied Semiotics (CAS) came into existence in the Fall of 1998. CAS is a research center affiliated with the School of Education and the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University-Bloomington.


Dr. Donald Cunningham (Director)
and his colleagues have been devoting themselves to the study and application of signs in relation to human cognition, social computing such as community-based information network, sense-making in virtual and real museum environments, distance learning, teaching strategies, etc. Their interests and efforts in advancing knowledge of Applied Semiotics are well reflected in their ongoing scholarly publications and research work.
